“A MONSTER IN PARIS” (Blu-Ray/DVD Review)

A Monster in Paris

A Monster in Paris

When one of our staff writers reviewed a theatrical pre-release of “A Monster in Paris” over a year ago we certainly were looking forward to this film’s domestic release. Certainly the film was met with a mediocre reaction and almost vanished from cinemas overnight, but the movie did have a charm and beauty of it’s own that now a year later I was hoping that my 5yr old daughter would appreciate with it’s release on Blu-ray/DVD. Out this week is “A Monster in Paris“an animated film about a wacky inventor, his camera-crazy best friend and a madcap monkey who make a massive mistake when let loose in a mad scientist’s laboratory. With lotions and potions spilling everywhere, the troublesome trio accidentally creates Franc, the product of a reaction between a common flea and one of the scientist’s mystery concoctions. What they fail to realize, however, is that this ‘monster’ is actually a soft-centered soul with an astounding talent for music. With the help of an enchanting nightclub singer Lucille, Franc becomes the talk of the town, just as stories of Paris’s newest monster attract the attention of the egotistical police commissioner, hell bent on securing a big prize to help his battle to become mayor. The unwitting scientists and the singer must team up to protect Franc, a monster with more than a musical career to protect! Read ahead for our review and check out the details about the home video release.

Harrison Ford on Last Night’s Jimmy Kimmel Show

With all the buzz and excitement about the recent news of an onslaught of Star Wars movies coming our way every year starting in 2015, you can imagine that ABC’s late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was eager to ask his guest last night, Harrison Ford, about it. Unfortunately, due to Disney and Lucasfilm’s confidentiality agreements, Harrison was unable to discuss what deals are in place or involvement he officially has with the films.  But, that didn’t stop fans in Jimmy’s audience from asking their favorite movie icon some questions. Beyond the Marquee’s Jon Donahue was in the first row of last night’s taping of Kimmel’s show and reports back to us that it was the most fun he’s ever had sitting in an audience for a TV show. Harrison Ford IS the man!!! Check out the video above to watch what happened.

For a Laugh – Patton Oswalt’s STAR WARS Filibuster from “Parks and Recreation”

Every once in awhile, Beyond the Marquee comes across some great YouTube videos that we can’t avoid sharing with our readers even though we know just about every other media site or social network out there has already picked up on the link.  The YouTube vid we’re recommending today was posted by NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” on Wednesday, April 17th to advertise Patton Oswalt’s upcoming appearance on the show.

Asked by the producers of “Parks and Rec” to just ad-lib as long as possible for the filibuster scene, Oswalt went on to create an 8-minute improvised Star Wars filibuster that you have to see to believe.  Fans of Patton Oswalt know that he is very much a fan of sci-fi movies, TV and comic books of every sort and has made no secret about it.  His three-franchise universe tie-in discussion during this entirely improvised filibuster is not only funny, but raises a lot of possible, although highly unlikely, ideas about what to expect in the new Disney-produced Star Wars films starting in 2015.  Enjoy!

Darth Vader and the Imperial Forces Attack Japan!!!

Beyond the Marquee reader, Tamara G from Dayton Ohio, sent an email to the BTM Mailbox last night with a list of interesting links from YouTube that are part of a promotional push towards next month’s opening of Star Tours in Japan.

Tokyo Disneyland’s Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, opening on Tuesday May 7th, will be a complete renovation of the classic ride, now featuring 3D images and much more. To generate excitement and awareness, Darth Vader and a team of Imperial Stormtroopers are scouring various cities in Japan in search of Rebel Spies (which ties into a plot point in the ride), and along the way posing for pics with locals, having lunch, visiting tourist locations and more.

If you can read Japanese, further details can be found at Tokyo Disneyland’s Resort page. Click ahead to see more of the invasion videos and let us know what you think in the comments below.
