“Django Unchained” Rides Onto Blu-ray!

Django Unchained on Blu-ray

Django Unchained on Blu-ray

First off, let me say that I love Tarantino movies. LOVE…and his newest film, Django Unchained,  is by far one of his absolute best. It truly is a fun time at the movies…or at home on a beautiful new Blu-ray set from Anchor Bay Entertainment!

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Academy Award ®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with a German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christolph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz rouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

BTM UNCUT: Director ROBERT ZEMECKIS on the Mattel Hoverboard Prop Replicas

At the recent 25th Anniversary reunion event in Beverly Hills to celebrate the Blu-ray release of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beyond the Marquee had the opportunity to chat with cast, crew and special guests attending that night’s festivities. Director Robert Zemeckis was on hand as well and just a few feet away was his co-collaborator on the Back to the Future films, Bob Gale. Seeing the duo who created the Back to the Future trilogy prompted us to ask Mr. Zemeckis what he thought about our Exclusive reports and the mixed reviews from fans surrounding Matty Collector’s recent Hoverboard prop replica.  We have been honored to share Mr. Gale’s thoughts in the past on our site and we are glad to hear what Mr. Zemeckis had to say as well.

24 years ago, on a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Back to the Future Part II, Robert Zemeckis caused a furor among kids and adults alike when he, with tongue firmly in cheek, told interviewers that Hoverboards were real and that the production managed to get their hands on some.  As a result, Mattel was swamped with letters from people wanting to know where they could get their own Hoverboard.  It’s great to see in this brief interview that Mr. Zemeckis hasn’t lost his sense of humor or ability to generate more rumors.

Though the clip of Robert Zemeckis was too long to include in our final web-series segment, we wanted to share it with you here and now. Enjoy.

The WRAP Party

MAD MEN Season Six: Don Draper and Personal Branding

Jon Hamm as Don Draper in MAD MEN

As we wait with bated breath for the Mad Men of Madison Avenue to return for season six, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen to the slick-haired, sleek-suited characters we’ve come to know and (sometimes) love.  Season Five ended with Don teetering once again on the edge of adultery, Joan sold herself for a five percent stake in the company, and Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce loses a member. Don Draper may be fictional, but he still remains the archetype of branding’s early days, when pure, unadulterated conspicuous consumption ruled the media landscape. We don’t yet know what awaits the debonair, chain smoking lothario in season six. Despite his industry blunders (and we’re sure more are on the way) he still manages to end up on top, teaching his viewers and theoretical peers some gritty life lessons. Through the chaos, the company never lost sight that branding is at the top of their “importance totem pole.” Although Mad Men takes place in a long-passed era, the lessons learned and loves lost can just as easily be applied to the Facebook generation, Click Ahead to check them out…

BTM UNCUT: A Moment with “BLADE RUNNER” Actress JOANNA CASSIDY

At the recent 25th Anniversary reunion event in Beverly Hills to celebrate the Blu-ray release of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beyond the Marquee had the opportunity to chat with cast, crew and special guests attending that night’s festivities. Actress Joanna Cassidy, who played Dolores, the love interest to Detective Eddie Valiant (played by Bob Hoskins) was on hand to reminisce about her experiences on-set and memories from that 1988 film.

Fans of the 1982 Ridley Scott sci-fi drama Blade Runner may also remember Joanna from that film as “Zhora the Snake Dancer” (who was actually a genetically engineered organic robot called a replicant), that met her demise thanks to future cop “Richard Deckard” (Harrison Ford).

During our interview Joanna revealed that although a scene for her Snake Dancer character was never shot for the film, she recently made her own video that might give us an idea of what the scene may have looked like. The clip of Ms. Cassidy discussing this was too long to include in our web-series segment, so we wanted to share it with you now. Enjoy.
