VALENTINE’S DAY FILMS FOR EVERYONE

As everyone with a calendar knows, February 14th is Valentine’s Day.  It’s also a day of new film releases.  So if you want to celebrate cinematically, you’ll have several choices.  You can play it safe with Safe Haven, the latest Nicholas Sparks love story without spark.  Or you can go the counterprogramming way with A Good Day to Die Hard, which will set some hearts aflutter, my explosion-loving wife’s to name but one.

Just as love is a many splendored thing, so too are love movies.  No matter what your heart’s desire, there’s a film out there for you, and I’m not just talking about Ghost or Casablanca.  Here are some home video recommendations for everyone.

Beautiful Creatures, a Be’witch’ing Teen Romance (Film Review)

Teen romance comes to the screen once more with the supernatural thriller Beautiful Creatures doing its best to break the mold switching from vampire lust to wooing witchery.  It’s Twilight only better.  The film takes you into the coven of some nasty people who want to preserve their species no matter the cost to their teenage daughter and local mortals.  I found the film nicely acted and directed with brilliant cinematography and excellent retro costuming.

A Valentine’s Day treat for you, the full-length short of Disney’s PAPERMAN

Fall in love with Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Oscar-nominated short, PAPERMAN, all over again! Created by a small, innovative team working at Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Paperman” pushes the animation medium in an exciting new direction.Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. Introducing a groundbreaking technique that seamlessly merges computer-generated and hand-drawn animation techniques, first-time director John Kahrs takes the art of animation in a bold new direction with the Oscar®-nominated short, “Paperman.” Now enjoy this animated gem just in time for Valentine’s Day and be sure to share it with someone you love today.

A Good Day to Die Hard, an Action Thriller (Film Review)

The action climbs to fever pitch in A Good Day to Die Hard the fifth in a series of Bruce Willis movies that have attracted large audiences. The film starts off with a bang and never stops with relentless destruction mounting to a thrilling roller coaster ride finish.  If you are an action junkie and need a shot of adrenaline, then you won’t want to miss this butt kicking sequel to one of the most lucrative franchises.

Check out Don Cheadle as the Iron Patriot in MARVEL’s Iron Man 3

Don Cheadle as the Iron Patriot in Iron Man 3

Walt Disney Studios and MARVEL released a new poster for Iron Man 3 today, a character poster of James Rhodes as the Iron Patriot / War Machine (played by Don Cheadle). In his Red, White and Blue suit of armor he stands ready to defend and protect us all in the name of Freedom and Liberty. I’m assuming. With more character posters rumored to be released up until the film’s release on May 3rd hopefully we’ll get some nice imagery (and maybe some hidden spoilers?) of some of the other supporting cast in the film. Click on this image to enlarge. We’ve also included what other Iron Man 3 posters have been released thus far.
