Life in the Fast Lane: HIT & RUN (Film Review)

Hit & Run Movie Poster

During the first part of 2012, it seems that films can be categorized as either a mega budget tent pole or low budget comedy. Most films that fall under the second category make up the lack of budget by either being slapstick funny or splattering the script with romance. Enter Hit & Run, a throwback to the car chase films of the 1970s. With the younger generation not be familiar with films like Smokey and the Bandit and The Cannonball Run, this chase film may feel like a new concept.

Dax Shepard plays a car enthusiast living in the middle of nowhere as part of the witness-protection program after testifying against his best friend (Bradley Cooper) in the wake of a failed robbery. He befriends a klutzy marshal in charge of keeping him safe (Tom Arnold) and has a loving, overachieving sociology professor girlfriend (Kristen Bell). Bell gets an opportunity to interview for a dream position as head of the nation’s first nonviolent conflict resolution department at a prestigious Los Angeles university, the place where Shepard would put himself at risk. Throwing caution to the wind, Shepard and Bell go on a road trip to the West Coast while being pursued by Bell’s obsessive ex-boyfriend (Michael Rosenbaum) Arnold, and a cast of dangerous villains. In the process, Shepard comes face to face with his colorful past.

PREMIUM RUSH, an Adrenaline Pumper (Film Review)

Action junkies beware the movie Premium Rush streaks into theaters this weekend and it’s a sweet adrenaline rush.  The film features some excellent shots of New York City through the eyes of a rapid camera that draws focus on all the heart pumping drama.  The fine acting and directing make this hour and a half body in motion film work.

COSMOPOLIS, an Enlightening Effort by Cronenberg (Film Review)

Showing most all the ills in the world Cosmopolis gives its audience a slow moving picture of our decaying civilization.  Although the film is nicely acted and directed, there’s too much crammed into the nearly two-hour movie to really appreciate the meaning of it all.  The warning here insinuates the self-destruction of our great society.

Did DOCTOR WHO’s Season 7 Premiere Just Jump Ahead a Week!?!?!

A recent world-exclusive trailer just released from BBC America seems to suggest that the Sept 8th season 7 series premiere of “Doctor Who” that was just announced earlier this week, may be moving up now to Sept 1st.  Unlike earlier seasons that debuted almost a year before on BBC UK, causing “Doctor Who” to be one of the most illegally downloaded TV shows, the BBC finally began doing simultaneous release dates on both continents so the UK and USA could chat freely about the shows with NO SPOILERS! Well if we’re lucky…we may only be a couple weeks away now from interdimensional space-traveling greatness!

Beyond the Marquee: The Web-Series (Episode 22): The WONKA Kids

Last Fall, Beyond the Marquee was invited to a special WONKA fan event to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the film and got a chance to chat with some of the stars of the Oompa Loompa-laden production; Paris Themmen (Mike Teevee), Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt) and Denise Nickerson (Violet Beauregarde).  They shared stories, recapped their favorite moments and answered some burning questions from our fans on the current whereabouts of some of the key props and costumes from the film.

REVENGE: The Complete First Season, Deliciously Decadent (DVD Review)

If you would like to know what retribution feels like then watch the television series “Revenge: The Complete First Season” is now on DVD.  So nicely crafted you would think that author Mike Kelly must have had a close encounter with a vengeance-craving woman.   Seriously though, I thought a female audience would best see the series, but after getting through the first two episodes, I got hooked.
