THE VOW, a Touching Valentine (Film Review)

LAGPOS VOW

Guest Review By: John M Delia, Jr.

Imagine your life now. What would it be like if you couldn’t remember the last 5 years. The Vow tells a story based on true events involving a young man named Leo (Channing Tatum) and young women named Paige (Rachel McAdams) who fall madly in love, get married, and are living theirs lives for each other. Their passion for one another becomes everything they live for.

When everything turns upside down due to memory loss from an accident, Leo has to find a way to get Paige to know him. The Vow provides a heart warming film that shows you how beautiful life is when you fall in love for the first time, and then how more meaningful when you have to do it a second time. It’s a Valentine for lovers.

McAdams as Page and Tatum plays Leo in THE VOW

Director Michael Sucsy moves his film along nicely giving the audience time to enjoy the relationship between this wonderful couple.  He tantalizes you with this perfect romance then drops a bomb in your lap.  Stunned by the outcome, he provides twists and turns that make you realize that love can be very delicate and easily broken.  It’s the fixing that brings on the drama, emotion and determination that makes this film excellent.

The Vow tugs at the heartstrings and had me engrossed in what Leo would do to win Paige back for the second time. It’s so amazing how much this film related to my personal relationship. Leo’s possible loss of love and trying to win Paige back reflected many memories that I have experienced in my life. The film, nicely written and directed brings out the superb acting by all the performers. I especially like the emotion and desperation seen in Channing Tatum and his chemistry with Rachel McAdams, the confused and overwhelmed Paige.

In support, I enjoyed the performance by Jessica Lange who plays Rita Thornton the loving mother of Paige and Sam Neill as Bill Thornton a well-established lawyer who really wants what’s best for his daughter. The two roles are important to the storyline and the actors nailed it.

The film has been rated PG-13 for accident scene, sexual content, partial nudity, and some language.
