World’s End, Cunningly Absurd (Film Review)

Weird, wacky and delightfully absurd the action comedy The World’s End delivers more of the bizarre minds of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright.  The film gets as goofy and crazy as their last two films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz with the quick witted British banter that keeps on giving till the very end.  While I’m not completely sold on this sketch filled outing it does have its merits.

Beyond the Marquee: The Web Series (Episode 51) – John Barrowman / HOLLOW EARTH

He’s tangled with a 900 year old time-lord, confronted a neighborhood of headstrong homemakers, battled hordes of inter-galactic aliens and fought to the death against the Green Arrow…and now, actor John Barrowman has ventured into the mysterious realm of Hollow Earth. The star of such shows as Doctor Who, Torchwood, Desperate Housewives and Arrow has been working closely with his sister Carole Barrowman on a magical new book series that follows fictional brother and sister, Matt and Emily, who have the ability to not only draw themselves into paintings, but into the world of Hollow Earth, a place where all the beasts that have ever been drawn or imagined live!

Beyond the Marquee’s own Steve Czarnecki had a chance to sit down at the Once Upon A Time Bookstore in Montrose, CA with authors John and Carole Barrowman to discuss the exciting new book series and more…

EPIC is an Animated EPIC Adventure NOT to Miss!!! (Blu-ray/DVD Review)

EPIC is EPIC FUN!

EPIC is EPIC FUN!

Steve C here and I’m declaring that EPIC is a MUST SEE! We recently received a copy for review and to my surprise, and the surprise of the entire household, we now have a new family favorite! I had missed EPIC in theaters and to be honest, the kids weren’t pushing me to see this film, maybe it was the marketing, maybe the lack of hype, but upon watching it this weekend, we were pretty blown away. From the creators of Ice Age, EPIC is now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Deluxe Edition Blu-ray, and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Directed by Chris Wedge (The Ice Age Franchise) and featuring an amazing voice cast including Colin Farrell, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Pitbull, and Beyoncé. Click ahead for our review and for details about the film’s special features!

“Buried” – BREAKING BAD, Season 5 Ep.10 (TV Review)

"Buried” – BREAKING BAD

“Buried” – BREAKING BAD

Your favorite Kiwi Lady here again to give you the scoop of last night’s episode of Breaking Bad, “BURIED”. Only 6 episodes to go!  With Vince Gilligan leaving us hanging last week, I really doubt you missed this one.   But just in case an act of God somehow kept you away from AMC, this episode starts up right where we left off with Walt leaving Hank’s garage.  Hank has started to put all the pieces of the puzzle together, but there are still plenty of gaps.   Just as Walt is pulling away he tries to call Skyler, but Hank has beat him to it… read more.

“YOU WALKING TO ME? I SAID ARE YOU WALKING TO ME?!”

Taxi DriverMovie trends come and go like any other industry.  Westerns are popular for a few years, then sci-fi, then fantasy.  Right now we’re up to our necks in vampires.  Movie posters, known in Hollywood as “one-sheets,” experience their own trends.

For a while it was the Stars-Standing-Back-To-Back model (Mr. & Mrs Smith, Two Weeks Notice, Pretty Woman).  That was replaced by the Giant Eye syndrome — every horror poster must feature a giant eye! (Seed of Chucky, Godzilla, The Eye {should’ve seen that one coming}).  Now we’re in an era of poster marketing led by what I like to call the You-Walking-To-Me fad.

If you think the fellowship walked a lot in The Lord of the Rings, then you haven’t studied multiplex décor of late.  Luckily for you, I have.  Here’s the insight I’ve walked away with.
