Beyond the Marquee Celebrates its 2nd Anniversary

Going Beyond the Marquee for over 2 Years!

Going Above and Beyond the Marquee for you for over 2 Years!

This past weekend marked the end of Beyond the Marquee’s second year on the Internet. What a year it has been. They say time flies when you’re having fun, but they never said how much faster it flies when you’re producing original web-series content and keeping your Entertainment News, Reviews and Interview website fresh with daily content. As we continue non-stop into the start of our third year, we take a moment to reflect back on our humble beginnings and our prospects for the future…and beyond. Click ahead to read more…and thank you for your support, fellow Marquee’ologists!

What started as an idea to build an outlet for friends with common interests, talents, passions and connections in Los Angeles has grown into something far greater than we could have imagined. We here at Beyond the Marquee (BTM) truly love what we do and are fully invested in every topic we cover.  With so many media website offerings on the web, we never set out to compete with anyone (in fact, most of the folks running those other sites are our good friends!).  The site was originally created to be the home of our Beyond The Marquee: The Web-Series and supplemented with daily written articles, features and thought-provoking reviews.  Surprisingly, when we decided to take a different tack and focus on spotlighting unique individuals, places and stories in Hollywood that don’t usually get a lot of attention (but should), we ended up carving a niche for ourselves that set us apart from the crowd.

To date, we’ve produced over 50 Beyond The Marquee: The Web-Series segments covering content pertaining to film, television and special Hollywood media events including interactions with some really fascinating people. Since last October alone, we were present for the 30th Anniversary of TRON with Bruce Boxleitner, we turbo-boosted in for a visit to the 30th Anniversary Knight Rider Reunion, got exclusive invites to movie/prop exhibitions for The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones, sent a team to the UK to report on the new Doctor Who Prop/Costume Experience, found our way back among the fun and chaos of Comic-Con: San Diego, saw an X-Wing fighter made entirely out of LEGOS, and met one of the most prolific hat makers working in Hollywood.

In addition we chatted with Animation legend June Foray at her home, spoke with the cast and crew of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, visited with famous movie poster illustrator Drew Struzan, and even found time to chat up legendary actor Malcolm McDowell about his long career.  And that’s just what we can remember off the top of our heads. Some of our most popular features continued to deliver starting with the ever-resourceful TRAILER TUESDAYS, family-friendly reviews from MARQUEE MAMA, unique perspectives on film & TV locations with LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION? (a BTM fan favorite), weekly film and DVD reviews from veteran writer John Delia and our new favorite feature, THE PROJECTION BOOTH, written by clever word-slinger, Steven D’arcangelo.

In addition to our features, we also had exclusive news posts, articles and interviews that kept us quite busy through Year 2. We were one of the first sites to report the multi-million dollar auction price tag for the iconic 60’s Batmobile…only a couple weeks after seeing it in person with its Batmobile brethren at the Warner Bros. Dark Knight Legend exhibit. Beyond the Marquee has cornered the exclusives on Mattel’s much-anticipated Hoverboard replicas from the start and not long after they were shipped out, we got a heavy take on them from Back to the Future creator, Bob Gale, (and managed to get Robert Zemeckis’ input too). Speaking of toys, we had quite a bit of reviews posted on new collector-level items that we got a first look at and ended out the year with a detailed review of a very detailed E.T. replica.

If we didn’t get them on camera, we usually tried to interview them in person or by phone and managed to post some great articles on celebs in the biz including a personal retrospective on Ray Harryhausen, a lovely interview with film and TV actress, Jane Levy and an interview with Star Trek: The Motion Picture visual-effects guru, Richard Taylor.  That last one generated quite a lot of buzz and heated arguments from die-hard Star Trek fans and one of those who chimed in with a detailed response was Star Trek design legend, Andrew Probert. Andrew worked on the Back to the Future trilogy and since that is a favorite film series of all the BTM staff, we managed to keep Back to the Future-related posts at the forefront, often sharing exclusives with our partner site, BTTF.com, along the way. We even managed to dabble in other media outlets as we sponsored an Internet Radio show for a short amount of time, hosted by our own Jon Donahue, called “The WRAP Party”.

Lindalee Rose, the world’s youngest Doctor Who reviewer, made her debut last Fall on Beyond the Marquee with Lindalee’s Doctor Who Reviews and the unexpected popularity of her videos turned her into a pint-sized Internet phenom. Thousands of worldwide followers continue to show their support for her Doctor Who episode reviews and Doctor Who fan-art segments and she’s also managed to catch the attention of Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat, in addition to several cast members both past and present. In just a year she’s gone from taping segments in her bedroom to having a custom-built set, complete with her very own TARDIS!

Beyond the Marquee joins The Nerdist Alliance

Beyond the Marquee joins The Nerdist Alliance

Our biggest announcement of Year Two for Beyond the Marquee was in April when we joined the family of preferred internet Entertainment websites and YouTube content providers aligned with “The Nerdist” Alliance. Under the direction of comedian, host and mega-nerd Chris Hardwick, “The Nerdist” and all of it’s multimedia properties continue to increase in popularity everyday. We are honored to be a part of that burgeoning empire and welcome in new readers and viewers on a daily basis as a result of the increased exposure.

‘Beyond’ the horizon for Beyond the Marquee?  Well, we definitely have some more surprises in store…some to be revealed very soon, in fact. Our site is expanding in ways we never imagined (well, we did imagine it a bit) and bigger segments, exciting new projects, features and more lie ahead. Let’s just say we’re extremely busy!  As we say farewell to Year Two, our third year already demands our attention and beckons with more exciting opportunities.  We continue to build our relationships with studios and industry insiders who have become fans and friends of Beyond the Marquee and we anticipate many new relationships and adventures to develop as we forge ahead.

We’re proud not only of the product, but of the team behind that product and we wish to thank you all for your continued support as we open up the doors to another year of fun. We hope you’ll stick around for the ride!
