And the OSCAR Should Go To…

See the Academy Awards, February 24th, on ABC.

The Academy Awards are my Superbowl.  Kick-off consists of red carpet interviews.  Halftime is the montage of tech awards distributed weeks prior (i.e. the bathroom break).  I look forward to each broadcast and pride myself on seeing the majority of films nominated for Best Picture.  This year, however, the increase of nominees from five to nine made it more difficult to see ‘em all.  I’ve only watched two (Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty) and to be honest, aside from Argo, I have no desire to see any others (yes, that includes Django Unchained.  Sorry, Quentin, but you lost me with your Inglorious Basterds and Death Proof tranquilizers).

So am I the most qualified person to speculate on which nominees should win?  Probably not.  But I am qualified to speculate on which films I would’ve nominated.  Without any further ado, the Oscar should go to:

Star Trek Into Darkness the 1-Sheet Poster

The Star Trek Into Darkness Motion Poster Leaves A Lot To Be Desired…

Once in awhile you get a good motion poster in the digital trend that seems to slowly be creeping into theaters or those map kiosk displays in malls. Sometimes they are clever, starting off as what appears to be a static one-sheet then suddenly coming alive with a few seconds of animation or live action which cycles back to the start and resets. Will this fad ever replace the traditional paper movie poster? Doubtful.  But, it will be interesting to see where poster print marketing goes in the next decade, especially seeing newspaper and magazines closing up shop and only having an on-line presence.

That all being said…I can only imagine that 10’s of thousands of dollars were invested to create the Star Trek Into Darkness motion poster. The static poster left a lot to be desired, so they really haven’t upped the ante with putting motion into it. Was Paramount hoping to take a mediocre poster and reinvent it as cool by making it move? It appears that’s the case. Unfortunately, falling debris and fire with a coarse voiceover doesn’t impress this fan. With all the “motion” why is Cumberbatch’s coat so stiff the whole time!?!? Take a look at the new Star Trek: Into Darkness motion poster after the jump and let us know what you think.

NEW Iron Man 3 Character Posters for Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley Revealed…

Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin

Walt Disney Studios and MARVEL released a couple new posters for Iron Man 3 this week, a character poster of Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian and another of Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. Hard to get any spoilers out of these, Killian looks as if he’s on hand at some producton or manufacturing plant, and the Mandarin seems bored in his bunker as his incense burns in the background and he’s putting a gun to his head with his hand. Last week we saw Don Cheadle as James Rhodes (aka War Machine), and I bet in the weeks to come leading up to the May 3rd release date, we’ll end up with some cool character posterss for Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) and Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark). We’re looking forward to seeing what the final one sheet for the film will end up being, will it be the traditional Iron Man floating head montage or something new for this third installment? Scroll down to see the posters released thus far for Iron Man 3 and let us know what you think…and be sure to click on any to enlarge.

Snitch, What Would You Do? (Film Review)

Actor Dwayne Johnson gives a powerful performance in the action drama Snitch opening in theaters this weekend.  The film, Based on true accounts, takes you on a suspense filled ride under the fine direction of famous stuntman Ric Roman Waugh.  Although the film does provide insight about how the justice system works, the hard knocks story does add a lot of ‘Hollywood’.

Bless Me, Ultima, a Compelling Coming of Age Drama (Film Review)

The inspirational drama Bless Me, Ultima has opened in South Florida delving into spiritual healing and Chicano lore.  The film has a lot of heart, excellent acting and fine direction by Carl Franklin.  As a bonus, there’s some awesome cinematography showing America’s stunning southwest that adds to the realism of the storyline.
