Sure, there’s always the obvious titles to stuff your stocking, like “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Brave” & “Paranorman”, but here’s a short list of a few recent Blu-ray releases that should not be overlooked this Holiday season!
Sneak Peek at Doctor Who’s New TARDIS Interior!
December 9th, 2012
Beyond the Marquee With Christmas just a couple weeks upon us, the anticipation builds for the new Doctor Who Christmas episode “The Snowmen”. We know the Doctor gains a new companion in this episode, but now we’ve learned (and gotten a sneak peek thanks to the BBC) of a new TARDIS interior as well. Now the control room of the TARDIS has been changing for decades, it seems that with each Doctor’s incarnation his ship gets a new facelift in more the one way. Usually changed to reflect the mood of the current Doctor, much like a computer desktop screensaver, the TARDIS interior can be changed with a flick of a switch. Though at times we’ve only seen slight differences in color and texture, in the more recent seasons the changes have been quite extreme. While we’ll leave trans-dimensional engineering to the Time Lords for why the interior is larger than the exterior, we do like the idea of keeping the show looking fresh. One thing is for sure, with this new set the toy manufacturer’s now have a reason to make a brand new Doctor Who Adventure Play-set for their action figures. Ebay, here I come again. What we’ve seen here (above) looks cool thus far, I can only imagine how impressive the entire thing will be come Christmas day. Click ahead to see some of the TARDIS interior’s of the past Doctors and drop us a line in the comments below and let us know which one you like the best.
OBLIVION poster is Oblivious to the Recent Poster Trend…
December 7th, 2012
Beyond the Marquee I’ve had it. I mean…c’mon, someone needs to say something. What is this continuuing standard now of having your main actor with his back to the audience, looking at some epic scoped action or location in the distance!?!? Well the latest teaser for Oblivion, the sc-fi film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Joseph Kosinski is the latest in this lack-luster trend. This looks quite familiar to the Star Trek Into Darkness poster last week debut with the similar layout of and comparrisons to Expendables 2. Now I’m not knocking the film, I’ve heard great things about the epic scope, action and feel of this movie, but as far as the teaser poster, it’s lazy, tired and unimaginative. Other than large cities or landscapes in the distance this style doesn’t paint much of a picture of the movie for you. Take a look and let us know what you think. Generation P, Making it Big in Capitalistic Russia
December 7th, 2012
John Delia With an admirable attempt to make a comedy about a challenged Russia the movie Generation P gets a little overboard on the satire. Although I like the quirky script, I don’t believe there will be a huge audience for the comic spoof mainly because of America’s lack of knowledge about Russia’s aversion for capitalism. For die hard indie fans however, this is your cup of ‘Mushroom’ soup.
It’s post-soviet capitalistic Russia and we find people doing odd jobs in order to keep afloat in the new world that has been handed to them. A woman sells Snicker bars on the street from a blanket laid down to guard her space from others who may want to nudge into her special spot. Others sell anything they can but with Babylen Tatarsky (Vladimir Yepifantsev) a poet of sorts, his income comes from a cigarette stand living off the meager income he makes from the Russian Mob owned Kiosk where he works.
A Matter of Time: the Back to the Future Lexicon (Book Review)
December 6th, 2012
Steve Czarnecki I take great pride in the fact that I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi comedy trilogy; Back to the Future. For over 2 decades I’ve had my hand in making personal parody videos playing both Doc & Marty, I was a member of the original Fan Club, I’ve met all the principal cast from the film, been a guest at Michael J Fox’s walk of fame induction, worked many of the anniversary celebrations, met Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale numerous times, saw Tom Wilson perform stand-up, been on the BTTF.com team for almost 13 years and most recently covered the exclusive behind the scenes development of the Mattel Hoverboards. So yeah, I’d consider myself a pretty big enthusiast and thought I was pretty knowledgeable of most things Back to the Future. And then like a bolt of lightning I picked up Rich Handley’s new book A Matter of Time: the Back to the Future Lexicon from Hasslein Books and suddenly I sheepishly realized there was a lot more to the BTTF universe that I needed to learn in my on-going journey as a fan. If you love the Back to the Future films, I encourage you to pick this ultimate guide-book up, you will NOT be disappointed. Click ahead to read my review…
Check Out the Teaser Trailer for STAR TREK Into Darkness
December 6th, 2012
David Chase I love that now trailers have Teaser Trailers…what is that? Anyway…regardless, I’m excited about this new trailer…teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness. Now the official full-length trailer is rumored to be out next week, but for now we have a minute of sci-fi goodness to keep us entertained until then (and a slightly longer version thanks to the international trailer). Now while I will argue that the teaser poster released earlier this week (see below) is just horrendous and lazy and looks like a dozen other movie posters I’ve seen in the past few years from Inception, Dark Knight, Expendables 2, Battleship, Sorcerers Apprentice and more, at least the trailer seems to redeem that blemish slightly. Take a look and let us know below in the comments what you think of the teaser trailer, and then check back here next week on BTM for the full version! Kirk Out.
TRON 3 Rumored to Hit the GRID Soon…
December 5th, 2012
Beyond the Marquee TRON Fans your time has come, you’ve been wondering if there was a sequel for sure to 2010’s Disney hit Tron: Legacy, and today we may have gotten one step closer to an answer. Rumor from within the Mouse House is that Jesse Wigutow will be working on the latest draft of the third installment of the film’s script. Back on board (once post-production on his latest film Oblivion is complete) will be Joseph Kosinski who directed the Tron: Legacy, and producer Justin Springer who has been busy with the Disney XD Tron: Uprising animated series is also slated to return. Though it’s not anticipated to start production until sometime around 2014, we may see the latest adventures of Sam Flynn and Quorra hitting the silver screen by 2016. We caught up with “Tron”himself, actor Bruce Boxleitner at the recent 30th Anniversary event for TRON last month in Hollywood and asked him what he knew about the 3rd installment in the franchise and would he be back for it? Click ahead for his reaction…
